The Philosopher’s Yard, Online Community Management Policy

At the Philosophers’ Yard, we pride ourselves on creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed and heard. Our goal is to cultivate a neutral space that encourages the constructive and respectful exchange of thoughts and ideas. To ensure this, we adhere to standard community guidelines that promote healthy and thoughtful online discussions.

Therefore, we kindly require that participants in The Philosophers’ Yard Online Community agree and adhere to our Community Guidelines.

Community admins will periodically monitor chats to ensure compliance with the guidelines. However, real-time monitoring may not always be possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding and strive to respond as promptly as possible.

If you come across any content that violates our guidelines before an admin has a chance to address it, please bring it to our attention by tagging or privately messaging a community administrator. You can find their contact details in the WhatsApp community member list. Alternatively, please send us an email at thephilosophersyard@gmail.com explaining what happened and who was involved. We will respond with what action has been taken.

Our unofficial 0th Guideline is try and encourage a Curious Creative Community. Engage in dialogue over debate, be curious rather than dismissed of others perspectives, and come with an openness of mind. Be friendly and welcoming, while respecting yourself and others.

Community Guidelines:

  1. Users must follow WhatsApp’s Messaging Guidelines

  2. Users must follow our Code of Conduct.

  3. Users must not engage in any form of hate speech, discrimination, or violent language, behaviour, or actions.

  4. Users must not post any form of inappropriate content, sexually explicit material, intentionally false or misleading information, violence, extremism or terrorism, or hateful or offensive material.

  5. Users must not engage in any illegal activity, including but not limited to sharing intellectual property they don’t own rights to, fraud, or organising crime.

  6. Users must not post another user’s personal information, including but not limited to home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, government-issued IDs, financial details, or any other sensitive data that could compromise someone’s privacy or security.

  7. Admins may permit self-promotion on an individual basis, however, users must not sell or advertise, including services or items, without the permission of community admins.

  8. Active participation is encouraged; however, excessive messaging - such as spamming, overwhelming conversations, or dominating discussions with frequent personal updates or beliefs - is not allowed. This guideline is intended only for extreme cases, so unless an admin reaches out to you directly, you are not in violation.

Enforcement

The consequences for violating community guidelines will depend on the severity of the situation or any history of prior misconduct. Actions may include a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent removal from the community. In certain cases, a user may be temporarily suspended while the administration team determines an appropriate resolution.

Community administrators reserve the right to remove any member at their discretion. However, we are committed to ensuring fairness in all decisions and will respect the standards outlined and protected by law through the Equality Act 2010.

If you would like to dispute any action taken please email thephilosophersyard@gmail.com; a team will be assembled independently of the WhatsApp community team to review the dispute and their verdict will be fed back to you as soon as possible.
